This course is designed to provide fundamental knowledge regarding child traumatic stress, including knowledge related to the types of traumatic events, traumatic reactions and the neurophysiology of trauma. This course provides information regarding the cognitive, social, emotional and behavioral impact of trauma on children and adolescents. The course provides insight into the ways in which trauma may manifest in the classroom as well as techniques for managing the emotional manifestation of trauma in the educational setting.
This course is intended to provide administrators, teachers and staff with resources for managing their own anxiety related to the COVID-19 pandemic so that they may be better able to support students who are coping with anxiety. This course will provide resources for administrators, teachers and staff to learn techniques for managing their own symptoms of anxiety as well as for supporting their own friends, family and colleagues. Participants will learn a variety of cognitive behavioral strategies for preventing anxiety and managing symptoms when they occur.
The Trauma Informed Educational Practices Course was designed to provide best practices for engaged students who have been impacted by trauma. Children and adolescents are impacted by trauma as a result of many adverse experiences including but not limited to exposure to emotional, physical or sexual abuse, witnessing intimate partner or domestic violence, experiencing a life threatening accident or natural disaster, community violence, loss of a parent or loved one, or most recently, a global pandemic. The practices described in this course are intended to maximize the potential for provision of a supportive environment while also maximizing students' ability to regulate their emotions and behaviors in an educational setting.
